New ADA series tackles staff recruitment, training

The American Dental Association has launched a new series of articles highlighting challenges dental practices are facing with recruiting, hiring and training staff, the dental association said Jan. 31.

“Focus on Workforce” is meant as a resource to assist practices with staffing so they can focus on patient care. Topics to be covered include hiring, licensing, education, staff retention and state-level actions.

Staffing issues have plagued dental practices nationwide during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the ADA’s most recent COVID-19 economic impact poll, 68.8 percent of respondents reported staffing as their greatest challenge. One in three dentists who reported schedules below 100 percent said vacant staff positions played a factor in the inability to reach capacity.
