Number of dental hygienists up 64,000 since 2001

There were 214,700 active dental hygienists in the U.S. in 2022, an increase of 64,820 hygienists since 2001, according to the American Dental Association’s Health Policy Institute.

The ADA collected the employment and job count data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The 214,700 dental hygienists in 2022 also represents a 3.6% increase over the 2021 figure.
