Public health dentists recruiting more than general practice dentists

Dentists in public health settings are recruiting staff more heavily than general practice dentists, according to a poll from the American Dental Association’s Health Policy Institute.

The ADA’s monthly “Economic Outlook and Emerging Issues in Dentistry Specialist Report” survey compared how much dentists in public health settings and those in general practice are recruiting dental assistants, dental hygienists, dentists and administrative staff.

Here is the the percentage of respondents in each group that are actively recruiting for each staff position:

Dental hygienists

Public health settings: 41.3%

General practice: 36%

Dental assistants

Public health settings: 66.7%

General practice: 33.8%

Dentists

Public health settings: 49.2%

General practice: 13.1%

Administrative staff

Public health settings: 49.2%

General practice: 21.8%
