Philadelphia-based Temple University has plans to open an education center and clinic at a former Rite Aid location in Tamaqua, Pa., WFMZ reported Nov. 13.

The 24-chair clinic will be developed by the university’s School of Dentistry and the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership. The facility will be funded through investments from Temple University, state and federal grants, private donations and the state’s City Revitalization and Improvement Zone program.

The university first announced its plans to open rural education centers in June. The initiative aims to reduce dental workforce shortages in rural areas of Pennsylvania.

Renovations are expected to begin this year, with a projected opening in September 2026.
