The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Dental Medicine has graduated its inaugural class of 40 students.

In addition to their dental degrees, the graduates also hold an integrated Community Health Certificate. Texas Tech is the only dental school in the U.S. that offers the certificate as part of its DMD program, according to a June 16 news release.

The certificate program includes courses focused on public health knowledge while also allowing students to design public health interventions based on community needs.

More than 40% of the graduates will practice in West Texas, expanding access to dental care in underserved areas.
