The orthodontic field is experiencing a slightly more positive workforce, according to a recent survey from the American Association of Orthodontists.

The AAO recently conducted its “Economics of Orthodontics and Patient Census Survey,” which gathers practice statistics, market data and additional information from its members. The association conducted 635 surveys this year.

According to the survey, the average number of employees in AAO member practices was 11 full-time employees and two part-time staff in 2024, compared to nine full-time employees in 2022.

Respondents also reported that an average of 10% of staff members left their practices last year, down from 12% in 2022. Forty percent of respondents had less than 1% of staff leave their practice, down from 43% who had less than 1% of staff leave their practice in 2022.
