The program takes place during students’ sophomore year. To be accepted, students from Xavier must take the Dental Admission Test and complete a degree program through Xavier University of Louisiana. Those who are nominated must interview for the program while taking part in UAB School of Dentistry’s 2022 Summer Health Professions Education Program. Students who are accepted are eligible for scholarships provided by UAB.

“This program enhances our efforts to recruit and develop promising students with backgrounds that are typically underrepresented in dentistry and prepare them for a career in this industry,” Carly Timmons McKenzie, PhD, assistant dean of admissions and associate professor at UAB School of Dentistry, said.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
