Washington, D.C., Council member Wendell Felder introduced legislation July 14 that would join the district in the Interstate Dental and Dental Hygiene Licensure Compact.
The Interstate Dental & Dental Hygiene Licensure Compact is backed by the American Association of Dental Boards as a streamlined pathway for dental professionals to gain licensure in different states while maintaining certain standards.
Washing, D.C., currently has two designated dental health professional shortage areas, one of which covers two wards with some of the highest rates of dental emergency department visits in the district, according to a news release.
If enacted, Washington, D.C, would become the third member of the compact. Several other states are also considering legislation to join, according to the AADB’s website.
