5 statistics on dental education in the U.S.

There are 65 accredited dental schools in the United States, according to the American Dental Association. Here are four statistics on dental education.

•    During the 2012 to 2013 academic year, there were 21,853 students enrolled in pre-doctoral education programs at dental schools across the country.
•    The class of 2012 had 5,199 pre-doctoral graduates.
•    During the 2012 to 2013 academic year, 10,240 (46.9 percent) of dental students were female and 2,398 (46.1 percent) of 2012 graduates were female.
•    In the past decade, first-year pre-doctoral enrollment has risen an average of 2 percent each year.
