A 2014 audit from California Department of Health Care Services titled “Weaknesses in its Medi-Cal Dental Program Limit Children’s Access to Dental Care” found that “Health Care Services’ information shortcomings and ineffective actions are putting child beneficiaries at higher risk of dental disease,” according to the report, submitted by Elaine M. Howlie, CPA and state auditor.
A meeting is scheduled for Tuesday to discuss these findings in the state of California, reported KPBS. The audit also shows that 56 percent of the 5.1 million children enrolled to receive dental care through Medi-Cal did not receive services through the program.
