Defense department dentist utilize new computer technology

 
The 779th Dental Squadron is utilizing Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Machining to make crowns and similar tooth restorations, according to the U.S. Defense Department Science Blog.

CAD/CAM technology is currently being used across the DOD. The technology allows teeth to be photographed with a camera attached to a chair-side unit and the crown or new unit can be cut in about 15 minutes.

“The cost savings with CAD/CAM can be applied to other more expensive practices such as implants and surgical procedures. This helps broaden the treatment options available to patients,” said Maj. Nathan Krivitzky, Director of the 779th Dental Squadron Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency Program.
