Dr. Irwin Smigel, celebrity dentist, passes away: 5 things to know

New York cosmetic dentist Irwin Smigel, DDS, passed away this past Monday, according to the New York Times. He was 92 years old.

Here are five things to know about Dr. Smigel:

1. He popularized two cosmetic techniques: laser whitening and a bonding technique for fillings.

2. He founded the American Society for Dental Aesthetics.

3. He wrote a book, titled Dental Health, Dental Beauty.

4. He worked with celebrities, including Elizabeth Taylor, Tony Bennett, Jimmy Fallon and Bruce Willis.

5. He earned his dental degree at New York City-based New York University College of Dentistry, which established the Smigel Prize in Aesthetic Dentistry in his honor.
