Though digital imagery is not new to dentistry, it can cause infection control issues, according to the report. The workstation allows dentists to interact with it by using motion-sensing technology to track hand gestures.
The researchers incorporated Kodak dental imaging software and Carestream CS 3D imaging software v3.19, which allows the system to work with 2D and 3D dental images.
The researchers performed 11 dental procedures with the system, including extractions, guided bone regeneration, dental implant placement and provisional prostheses.
