Sacramento residents receive preventative care — 5 takeaways

Carrington College and Sacramento City College dental students are providing residents free or low cost dental care, according to The Sacramento Bee.

Here are five takeaways:

1. Carrington College charges no fees for dental services. Sacramento City College charges minimal prices for patients that can afford them.  

2. Dental students work with supervising dentists who prescribe anesthesia, review X-rays and teach how to best advise patients needing medical or restorative dental treatment.

3. Sacramento City College’s dental hygiene and dental assisting students administer care to patients, while Carrington clinic’s dental hygiene students provide care to residents.

4. Both colleges’ students do not have issues obtaining jobs after graduation. Of its 24 graduates last spring, 17 graduates are presently employed. Carrington College has a job placement rate of 79 percent for its dental hygiene graduates.  

5. In the Sacramento region, dental assistants earn approximately $96 to $200 a day. Dental hygienists make approximately $400 a day.
