The DSO became aware of a possible data security incident involving its email tenant July 7, 2022, according to a Dec. 22 news release. The company then used a cybersecurity firm to investigate, which confirmed that certain personal and protected health information may have been accessed or acquired without authorization.

The information that was accessed may have belonged to people who sought treatment or services at ProSmile-supported offices. The information that may have been accessed includes identifying information, financial information, medical treatment information, provider information and health insurance information.

The DSO said it notified potentially impacted individuals Dec. 22 and provided ways for those individuals to protect their information. The company also established a call center to provide information and address concerns.

ProSmile supports more than 80 offices in four states.
