The practice discovered Feb. 16 that an unauthorized third party gained access to its network. The practice notified law enforcement and launched an internal investigation with a forensic security firm, according to a notice on the practice’s website. The investigation concluded that the third party acquired certain files which may have contained patient information such as names, contact information, social security numbers, health information and dental insurance information.
Somerset Dental Las Vegas said it is reviewing its cybersecurity posture to reduce the risk of future incidents and is notifying affected patients.
The practice submitted the incident to the HHS Office for Civil Rights Breach Portal April 16.
