6 updates on dentistry in California over 1 month

From a data breach to a lawsuit appeal, here are six updates on the California dental industry that Becker’s has reported on since June 12:

1. Long Beach, Calif.-based Dental Health Services suffered an email data breach affecting 4,562 members. 

2. Cal Dental USA added NBA Champion and ESPN Sports analyst Kendrick Perkins as a partner at their Cal Dental of Atlantic office in Bell, Calif. 

3. Some Medi-Cal Dental providers are still working through processing times and unpaid claims issues stemming from the Change Healthcare cyberattack in February.

4. Loma Linda (Calif.) University School of Dentistry received a $4 million grant to develop a biomarker using artificial intelligence to identify patients with the highest risk of developing oral cancer.

5. The California Dental Association plans to appeal a recent decision in its lawsuit against Delta Dental of California.

6. The Union of American Physicians and Dentists agreed on a deal with Los Angeles County-owned hospitals to get cost-of-living increases and bonuses for unionized physicians and dentists.
