On Jan. 23, the practice became aware of unauthorized access to a number of employee email accounts, leading to an unauthorized actor potentially viewing or accessing information stored in the accounts, according to a notice from the practice.

The practice launched an investigation, finding that the unauthorized access occurred between Jan. 11 and Jan. 23. The review was completed June 10 and the practice mailed notices to potentially affected patients.

Information that may have been accessed includes names, demographic information, medical information, health insurance information, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers and financial account information.

At this point, The Dental Specialists is not aware of any identity theft or fraud related to the breach, the notice said.
