What dentists have done at their practice in 2025

Dentists have had a busy start to 2025, purchasing equipment, investing in new software, adding staff and dropping insurance networks, according to the American Dental Association.

The Economic Outlook and Emerging Issues in Dentistry survey from the first quarter of 2025, created by the ADA’s Health Policy Institute, polled dentists on the actions they have taken at their practice so far this year.

The report surveyed 738 dentists in private practice. 

Here is what dentists have been up to:

Made major equipment purchases

Yes: 15.5%

No, but may do later this year: 22%

No, not planning to do this year: 62.5%

Invested in new software

Yes: 18.1%

No, but may do later this year: 18.1%

No, not planning to do this year:  63.8%

Added staff

Yes: 31.2%

No, but may do later this year: 26.1%

No, not planning to do this year: 42.7%

Dropped some insurance networks

Yes: 19.9%

No, but may do later this year: 32.1%

No, not planning to do this year: 48%
