The University of Nevada Las Vegas is preparing to open a first-of-its-kind dental clinic aimed at serving patients with disabilities.

The clinic, which will be located on the university’s Shadow Lane campus, will include an operatory with space to accommodate wheelchairs and gurneys as well as extra-wide doors and corridors. Each treatment room will also be anesthesia-ready, according to a June 18 news release.

Additionally, the university plans to relaunch its services for infants born with cleft palate or other craniofacial anomalies. This treatment was shuttered after the school lost state funding during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevada was one of two states that lacked access to a formal cleft palate and craniofacial team, but a bill signed by the governor earlier this month restored funding for the service.

The school plans to open the clinic in September.
