The Pennsylvania Superior Court recently upheld an $11.5 million verdict against a Pennsylvania dentist who failed to diagnose and treat a patient’s oral cancer, The Citizens’ Voice reported July 27.

Linda Shen, DDS, was ordered by a jury to pay $11 million to a patient in February 2024, including $3 million for negligence and $8 million in punitive damages. A judge also granted a motion for $459,514 in delay damages.

Dr. Shen appealed to the Superior Court, stating that the verdict was against the weight of the evidence and that she should not have faced punitive damages. A three-judge panel from the Superior Court sided with the patient and upheld the verdict.
