The University of Pikeville (Ky.) received a loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to support the development of its new dental school.

The Tanner College of Dental Medicine will be the first dental school in Eastern Kentucky and is expected to open in 2026.

The $53.2 million Community Facilities Direct Loan will go toward construction and equipment costs, according to an Aug. 29 news release.

Construction is expected to begin in the coming months, the university said.

The university also received a $2.35 million donation from the Delta Dental of Kentucky Foundation to support the dental school in April.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
