Missouri oral surgery practice suffers data breach

Greater St. Louis (Mo.) Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery recently suffered a data breach affecting 501 individuals. 

The practice said it became aware of potential unauthorized access to an employee email account for the purpose of distributing a phishing email, according to a notice on its website.

Personal information that may have been affected by the breach includes names, telephone numbers, dates of service, treatment information and health insurance information. The practice said there is no indication of the misuse of personal information. 

An investigation into the incident remains ongoing. 

The practice submitted the incident to the HHS Department’s breach portal Dec. 4.
