Tom Arkle, DDS, recently gave a $1.4 million donation to the West Virginia University School of Dentistry in Morgantown.

Dr. Arkle graduated from the WVU School of Dentistry in 1978. He spent 32 years practicing orthodontics in North Carolina and was the owner of Arkle & Harris Orthodontics in Charlotte, N.C., before retiring in 2015.

Dr. Arkle decided to give the donation after identifying financial challenges in oral health education, including recruitment and competitive wages for higher education roles.

Dr. Arkle’s gift helps establish the first named chair position at the school, the Dr. Thomas Arkle III Chair of Orthodontics, according to a Feb. 9 news release.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
