6 federal government, policy updates for dentists to know

Several legislative proposals introduced over the last 30 days can have a large impact on the dental industry.

Six updates for dentists and other dental leaders to know:

1. The American Dental Hygienists’ Association urged the Department of Education to reconsider proposed student loan caps for healthcare fields.

2. EPA released its next steps for reviewing the health impact of drinking fluoridated water. 

3. The American Dental Association requested that Congress update the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act with oral healthcare in mind.

4. The dental industry will receive additional funding in several areas after Congress passed the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies Appropriations Act.

5. Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Josh Hawley, R-Mo., introduced legislation that would prohibit companies from simultaneously owning a health insurer or pharmacy benefit manager and a medical provider or management services organization, and would require companies in violation to come into compliance within one year of the bill’s enactment.

6. U.S. Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., introduced legislation to end the H-1B visa program.
