Patients are currently filing claims to receive reimbursement for dental work that was not completed after the death of a dental practice owner, CBS Pittsburgh reported Feb. 24.
Medgaus Dental Group in Monroeville, Pa., closed last year after the unexpected death of its owner, Carl Medgaus, DMD. The cause of death is unknown, but a post on the practice’s website stated that the passing was unexpected and “without prior warning.”
The practice told KDKA in 2025 that the dentist’s estate was responsible for addressing financial matters, including patient reimbursements.
CBS Pittsburgh stated that the deadline for patients to file claims is March 12. More than 150 creditors have already filed claims.
An attorney representing the estate told CBS Pittsburgh that they are gathering documentation and will evaluate all claims before any payments are made.
