Philadelphia-based Temple University was granted approval to open a dental clinic in Tamaqua, Pa., tnonline.com reported Feb. 26.
Temple University initiated plans to open an education center and clinic at a former Rite Aid location last year.
The Tamaqua Zoning Hearing Board approved the university’s plans to convert the site into a 24-chair clinic earlier this week.
The university leased the building for a 15-year initial term with an annual lease starting at $218,500. The school is expected to spend about $3.19 million on furniture, fixtures and equipment for the building.
The clinic will allow third- and fourth-year dental students to provide comprehensive care as part of the university’s mission to improve access in rural areas of Pennsylvania.
