Dental group owners, employee convicted of fraud, conspiracy

Two founders of a dental practice network and an employee have been convicted of conspiracy and fraud charges.

Bhaskar Savani, DMD, and Arun Savani operated several dental practices throughout Pennsylvania as part of a criminal enterprise dubbed “the Savani Group,” according to a March 9 news release from the Department of Justice. Dr. Savani reportedly ran the practice while Mr. Savani oversaw the group’s finances and property holdings. Additionally, Aleksandra “Ola” Radomiak was a long-term employee and executive at the Savani Group.

Dr. Savani and Mr. Savani received more than $32 million from the Pennsylvania Medicaid program through the enterprise. Both men were convicted of numerous charges, including conspiracy to conduct a racketeering enterprise, conspiracy to commit visa fraud, conspiracy to obstruct justice, conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud, money laundering, conspiracy to defraud the U.S. Treasury and wire fraud. Dr. Savani was also convicted of conspiracy to distribute in interstate commerce an adulterated and misbranded medical device.

Dr. Savani and Mr. Savani face a maximum penalty of 420 years in prison and 415 years in prison, respectively. Their sentencing hearings are scheduled to take place in July.

Radomiak was convicted of conspiracy to conduct a racketeering enterprise, conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud and healthcare fraud. They will be sentenced July 14.
