A Utah man has been charged with continuing to practice dentistry despite surrendering his dental license in 2023, ksl.com reported April 15.

Richard Arthur Shulze, DDS, surrendered his dental license after pleading no contest to charges of DUI and trespassing in 2023, according to information from the Utah Division of Professional Licensing.

Dr. Shulze allegedly continued to treat patients in a rented office space several months after his license was surrendered. He also allegedly promoted a practice named Prevention Dentistry on Facebook in 2024. He reportedly admitted to a state licensing investigator that he rented an office in Murray, Utah, to follow up with past patients, for which he was issued a cease and desist order and fined $10,000. He is accused of continuing to practice after the cease and desist order was given.

Dr. Shulze was charged April 14 with two counts of practicing dentistry without a license, a third-degree felony.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
