The Florida Department of Health would create the legislation, which would set aside $250,000 for student loan repayments. The proposed bill would limit the number of dentists who could qualify to 10. Each, however, could earn up to $50,000 a year for five years.
To qualify, dentists must agree to work in public health programs or underserved areas.
“That bill would encourage and incentivize dentists to go into underserved areas and work as a full-time Medicaid provider to treat those in these underserved areas,” said Joe Anne Hart with the Florida Dental Association, according to WTXL. “They would work in county health departments and community health centers.”
