Nashville, Tenn.-based Meharry Medical College has received approval to open a faculty dental clinic in Paducah, Ky., NBC affiliate WPSD reported April 28.

The Paducah City Commission gave the college the greenlight to begin developing the clinic April 28.

Eddie Hamilton, MD, currently owns the building that will house the dental clinic. He gave a presentation to the city commission discussing the project, including the facility’s staffing and treatment plans.

According to Dr. Hamilton, the college is partnering with KentuckyCare, a network of medical clinics, to bring dental care to state residents. The facility will include six exam rooms to treat patients regardless of their ability to pay. The clinic will also be led by a dentist who lives in the city.

Dr. Hamilton acknowledged potential challenges with the clinic staying financially sustainable, stating that the initiative will require support from all levels of government. He also mentioned participating in the federal Rural Health Transformation program and creating a nonprofit to help support the clinic.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
