Dr. Renato Silva appointed dean of UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry

The UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry has named Renato Silva, DDS, PhD, as its next dean. 

Dr. Silva is an endodontist and clinician-scientist with experience in dental education, translational science, clinical practice and faculty development, according to a July 14 news release from UTHealth Houston. 

He currently serves as professor, senior associate dean and chair of the Department of Endodontics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Silva is also a director and treasurer of the American Board of Endodontics and has authored more than 115 peer-reviewed publications.

Dr. Silva will succeed John Valenza, DDS, who has served for nearly four decades. 

The appointment is effective Sept. 30, 2026, and Dr. Silva will be the dental school’s 15th dean, the release said.
