MaineCare, the state Medicaid program in Maine, has updated anesthesia reimbursement rates for dental providers.

The program increased deep sedation and anesthesia rates for dental providers, according to a July 29 news release from the State of Maine Department of Health and Human Services.

With the changes, dental providers do not need to submit prior authorizations for dental sedation or general anesthesia administration services exceeding five 15-minute units. The updated reimbursement rate for codes D9222, D9223, D9224 and D9225 is now $205.25. The rates reflect 67% of the commercial median benchmark.

Maine Gov. Janet Mills signed legislation to increase the reimbursement rates on April 15.

The rate changes were effective for dates of service beginning July 1, 2026, and were implemented for billing July 29, the release said.

At the Becker's 5th Annual Future of Dentistry Roundtable, taking place September 14-15 in Chicago, dental leaders and executives will gain insights into emerging technologies, practice growth strategies and the evolving landscape of dental care delivery, with a focus on innovation, patient experience and operational excellence.
