Jonathan Burke, DMD, has been selected as director of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, effective Sept. 20.
Dr. Burke currently serves as medical director of an oral and maxillofacial consulting firm in Philadelphia. He previously held an assistant professor of surgery appointment at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, where he co-founded the institution’s first Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and a concurrent faculty role at Temple University School of Dentistry.
As NIDCR director, Dr. Burke will oversee a budget of more than $520 million supporting research in oral cancer, orofacial pain, tooth decay, periodontal disease, salivary gland dysfunction, craniofacial development and the oral complications of systemic diseases.
Jennifer Webster-Cyriaque, DDS, PhD, has served as acting NIDCR director since April 2024.
