The Minnesota Board of Dentistry has provided notice of a data breach that impacted private licensee data, according to a Sept. 22 note from the Minnesota Dental Association.
On March 13, 2026, Ashley Johnson, DMD, president of the dental board, was contacted by the board’s legal counsel about a potential security incident. Dr. Johnson reported the potential breach to the Minnesota Office of the Legislative Auditor.
An investigation conducted through the Minnesota Department of Administration in July 2026 revealed that licensee data was improperly disclosed to an unauthorized individual. About 1,200 individuals were named in the data breach, and the private data of about 647 individuals was accessed.
The types of information that were accessed or compromised have not been disclosed by the dental board.
The Minnesota Board of Dentistry has no evidence that any of the information has been misused.
