The University of Rochester (N.Y.) plans to open a new dental school next year.
The Eastman School of Dentistry will be the university’s first new school in more than 50 years, according to an Oct. 2 news release.
The school builds on the university’s existing Eastman Institute for Oral Health, which has provided dental education, research and patient care for more than a century. The current School of Medicine and Dentistry will be renamed the School of Medicine once the new dental school is established. The new dental school will then house the Eastman Institute for Oral Health.
The school will offer a DMD program once it opens in January 2027, complementing the oral health institute’s 10 existing postgraduate education programs.
Eli Eliav, DMD, PhD, will serve as the school’s inaugural dean.
