Morgantown-based West Virginia University School of Dentistry has received a $15 million Congressionally Directed Spending award.

The funding will be used for the dental school renovations and purchasing equipment, according to an Oct. 20 news release from Sen. Shelley Capito, who helped secure the award.

The award was provided by the Health Resources and Services Administration.

The dental school also received $12.6 million in funding for an expansion and renovation project in 2024.

“Our commitment to education, community service and patient care is central to our WVU School of Dentistry mission of improving the oral health and well-being of families throughout West Virginia,” Stephen Pachuta, DDS, dean of the WVU School of Dentistry, said in the release. “This project will significantly strengthen our educational foundation, helping to address workforce shortages while expanding access to high-quality care throughout our state and our region.”
