9 congressmen urge FDA, FTC to investigate SmileDirectClub & 4 other dental notes

Here’s the latest roundup of dental companies that have been in the headlines, including Aspen Dental and Delta Dental.

1. Delta Dental of Tennessee, the state’s largest independent dental benefits carrier, donated $563,000 to East Tennessee dental clinics.

2. West Hollywood, Calif.-based startup Pearl has developed artificial intelligence to help combat dental insurance fraud.

3. Nine members of the U.S. House of Representatives, including five dentists, three physicians and one pharmacist, sent the FDA and Federal Trade Commission a letter “to express [their] concern regarding SmileDirectClub.”

4. Colgate-Palmolive Co. announced Jan. 23 that it signed a definitive agreement to acquire Hello Products.

5. East Syracuse, N.Y.-based Aspen Dental plans to open a new practice in Mount Pleasant, S.C., a dental health professional shortage area.
