“Dentists are highly trained individuals that have treated patients in consideration of precautions for infectious diseases for many many years,” the board wrote in a April 24 news release cited by KFOR.
The board said there weren’t any known cases of dental professionals testing positive for COVID-19, even after treating a patient that subsequently tested positive.
The board wrote that they disagree with the Oklahoma Association of Dental Hygienists’ call to keep practices closed. Several community members have complained to the board about an inability to receive dental care, according to the release.
Board members said they will continue to release safety recommendations and that dental professionals can choose not to return to work immediately.
