“Affordability is a great barrier to increasing the number of students entering the profession,” said David Pena, Jr., Executive Director of Hispanic Dental Association in an e-mail. “Offering a greater number of regionally targeted scholarships will help more Hispanics pay for tuition.”

Mr. Pena also notes the number of Hispanics being accepted and graduating from dental schools does not match the growth of the Hispanic population, which is a concern for HDA.
