Clinical evidence unclear on effects of xylitol products preventing dental caries

According to a study by Cochrane Oral Health Group, researchers found low quality evidence suggesting toothpastes containing xylitol are more effective than fluoride-only toothpastes for preventing caries in children’s permanent teeth.

Researchers also found “low to very low quality evidence that would be insufficient to claim whether any xylitol-containing products can prevent caries in infants, children, or adults.”
