5 federal government, policy updates for dentists to know

The American Dental Association voiced its support for two educational initiatives affecting dentists and three other recent federal updates for dentists to know:

1. In Aug. 26 comments, the ADA applauded the Education Department’s proposal to eliminate interest capitalization on certain federal student loans and reform the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. 

2. In a Sept. 6 letter to the HRSA, the ADA supported Title VII education grants for dental professionals and urged the federal agency to prioritize training programs for hygienists and assistants.

3. The White House is dedicating $2.8 billion to biomanufacturing and biotech companies to boost domestic manufacturing.

4. HHS gave drug wholesale company AmerisourceBergen $19.8 million to speed up delivery of monkeypox vaccine doses and treatments.

5. President Joe Biden released his plan Aug. 24 to forgive up to $20,000 in student loan debt to eligible borrowers.
