Penn Dental enhances teledentistry care for patients with disabilities: 5 things to know

Penn Dental Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia has added two resources to its teledentistry platform for patients with disabilities.

Five things to know:

1. The school added a teledentistry assessment platform and a series of educational videos.

2. The new resources were launched using a $67,600 grant from the CareQuest Institute for Oral Health and a $20,000 grant from the Eagles Autism Foundation.

3. The assessment platform can be used to provide patients and their families care advice and pre-visit consultations on oral health maintenance, non-urgent dental needs and emergencies.

4. Nurse practitioners at the school's Care Center for Persons with Disabilities and DMD students conduct the teledentistry calls to collect necessary medical information about the patients before their initial in-person visit.

5. A series of orientation videos will help introduce patients and caregivers to the school's services and help them prepare for their first dental visit.
