AI-powered cavity detection gains FDA 510(k) clearance

VideaHealth, a dental artificial intelligence technology company, received FDA 510(k) clearance for Videa Caries Assist, an AI cavity detection algorithm.

During the FDA trial, dentists using Videa’s AI missed 43 percent fewer cavities. Those using Videa’s AI also had a 15 percent average reduction in erroneous detections of caries lesions, according to a May 2 VideaHealth news release.

The company was founded in 2018 and is backed by venture capital firms Spark Capital, Zetta Venture Partners and Pillar VC in addition to angel investors.
