Dentists have rapidly increased their use of teledentistry since the pandemic began, and 86 percent of patients reported being satisfied with the overall teledentistry experience, according to survey results released Nov. 19 by the DentaQuest Partnership.

As lack of access to dental care continues to be a problem threatening the systemic health of millions of Americans, more teledentistry startups are emerging to provide patients with virtual and affordable dental care and education.

SmileDirectClub, a Nashville, Tenn.-based teledentistry company that specializes in clear aligner therapy, has had an eventful year so far — complete with lawsuits, patents, new partnerships and more.

The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the adoption of teledentistry, but challenges from insurance companies, lawmakers and traditionally-minded dentists have hindered its widespread adoption, according to an Oct. 21 report from Kaiser Health News.
