South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster recently signed legislation that requires in-person examinations to be conducted before patients can receive orthodontic treatment.
S453 requires dental professionals to complete in-person examinations and review radiographic records before initiating any orthodontic treatment with patients.
South Carolina is the ninth state to enact such legislation, according to a May 27 news release from the American Association of Orthodontists. Other states that have already done so are Nevada, Florida, Illinois, Utah, Georgia, West Virginia, Oklahoma and Texas.
