Number of first-year dental school students in the last 10 years

The number of first-year dental school students has increased by 11.6 percent over the last 10 years, according to data from the American Dental Association.

The ADA maintains data on dental school education, including enrollment, diversity and tuition. 

Here are the number of first-year students from 67 U.S. dental schools since the 2012-13 academic year:

2012-13: 5,697

2013-14: 5,904

2014-15: 5,967

2015-16: 6,000

2016-17: 6,165

2017-18: 6,184

2018-19: 6,250

2019-20: 6,308

2020-21: 6,317

2021-22: 6,360
