Out-of-pocket cost to see a dentist in the worst states for dental health

The average out-of-pocket cost for a visit to the dentist is $130.43 in Mississippi, the worst state for dental health.

Data on the cost of dental care was collected as part of personal finance site WalletHub’s “2023’s Best & Worst States for Health Care” ranking, which was published July 31. 

The rankings for the worst states for dental health were published by WalletHub Feb. 1. 

Here is the average out-of-pocket cost to visit a dentist in the bottom 10 states for dental health:

51. Mississippi: $130.43

50. Arkansas: $63.93

49. West Virginia: $103.41

48. Montana: $104.95

47. Texas: $109.03

46. Louisiana: $116.35

45. Alaska: $153.74

44. Alabama: $102.06

43. California: $125.80

42. Florida: $100.90
