Dental hygienists and dental assistants were both included on the best 28 healthcare support jobs list by U.S. News & World Report.

The average annual salary for oral surgeons is more than $100,000 higher than dentists, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Annual salaries for dentists, dental hygienists and dental assistants vary by state, with dentists bringing an average of $172,290, dental hygienists making $84,860 and dental assistants earning $44,710 annually.

The average cost to visit an oral surgeon in Alaska is between $99 and $147, the highest of any state, according to insurance company Sidecar Health's care calculator.

Alabama had the lowest number of dentists per capita out of any state in 2022, with 41.27 dentists per 100,000 individuals, according to data collected by the American Dental Association.
