The Utah Dental Association is urging Gov. Spencer Cox to veto a bill that would ban water fluoridation statewide.
Five notes:
1. The state legislature passed HB81 Feb. 21.
2. While prohibiting the addition of fluoride to public water supplies, the bill allows people to visit a pharmacist for fluoride supplements to support dental health.
3. Gov. Spencer Cox has said he plans to sign the bill, which would make Utah the first to implement a statewide water fluoridation ban.
4. The UDA said the bill would adopt public policy “in complete opposition to effectively decreasing dental decay and strengthening teeth enamel.”
5. The American Dental Association and the American Dental Hygienists Association have also urged Mr. Cox to veto the bill.
